WWE Royal Rumble 2019: 8 Things WWE Got Right

6. Starting The Men's Rumble With Comedy

We even got a slice of comedy, 'Double J' style.

Some may argue that Rumble cameos are a complete waste of an entrant, but do those arguments have any value these days? WWE use this match as an excuse to showcase some legends and a few newer heroes, and try to get as many people over as they can. There are different ways to do that.

For example, Elias gained more from smashing a guitar over Jeff Jarrett's head that he might've done sparring with Shinsuke Nakamura for a few minutes before someone else joined the fray. His singing-meets-promo-meets-guitar-smashing spot at the beginning of the match gave him some spotlight in a unique way.

Jarrett was never going to have a super-serious stab at winning the thing, and so it was best that his cameo was kept short, light-hearted and resulted in Elias doing the dirty to eliminate him. For what it's worth, this opening was preferable to the usual 90 seconds of nothing.
