12 months ago, Edge belted through the curtain in Houston and entered a top notch 23-minute performance in the 2020 Rumble. His surprise return was greeted with cheers, tears and everyone being drenched in beers as fans lost control of themselves and threw their hands up in the air.

In 2021, people could cry for a different reason.

Edge's promo on Raw was everything it needed to be. The once-retired legend spoke of a closing window of opportunity for 'The Ultimate Opportunist'. The 2020 Rumble was magical, but 2021 represents something different: Edge's character believes he has to strike hard whilst he still can. He's setting himself up for a painful fall, basically.

The truth is that, as nice as it'd be to see him do it, Edge doesn't need to win this year's Rumble. In fact, a World Title tilt later in 2021 might mean even more if he doesn't. The Canadian must slump back to his hotel room post-show and be haunted by his own 'closing window of opportunity' comments.
