WWE’s Escape The Undertaker Review: 5 Ups & 3 Downs
3. A Cinematic Match You Never Knew You Needed
WWE ran a ton of cinematic matches throughout 2020. These ranged from excellent (WrestleMania 36's 'Boneyard' battle between 'Taker and AJ Styles) to awful (that 'Wyatt Swamp Fight' pitting Bray vs. Braun Strowman at Extreme Rules). One scene in 'Escape' would veer towards the former on the quality scale.
New Day vs. The Undertaker is a cinematic match nobody knew they needed.
A fight scene near the end of the show is reminiscent of 'Taker's barmy brawl with AJ. It's a three-on-one handicap affair that conjures up images of Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows interfering on Styles' behalf, and it has just enough "wrestling" (well, weapon shots and bumping) to make it worthwhile.
Nobody should scoff at the silliness on offer here. As the intro stated, it's unapologetically daft! Woods and Kofi chaining up 'Taker so Big E can grab the urn is a riot, and so if 'The Deadman' using telekinesis to steal a sledgehammer from Kingston.
Look out for one hell of a 'Taker back bump in there too.
