And 5 Matches That Sucked...
5. Shawn Michaels vs. Batista - RAW, October 13th 2008
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6BiwNtQmIWI Proof that whilst Shawn Michaels can usually pull off a good match with ease, sometimes things just don't go his way. Whilst there had never been a standout Michaels vs. Batista match, they were usually at least entertaining affairs - the two men had put on a relatively strong performance at Extreme Rules earlier in the year (albeit with a poor ending that left Batista looking like a chump). Not only that, but Shawn was in the middle of a great streak of performances with Chris Jericho, which was the basis of this Lumberjack Match, so for this match to be so underwhelming said something. From the getout, the fact that the ring was surrounded by a feast of (mostly) midcard heels indicated that this would probably end up being a fairly obvious story in terms of the lumberjacks, but the actual match itself before any shenanigans was just...boring. Shawn seemed to be phoning it in for the most part and Batista was not able to carry the match by himself. The crowd, who had been hot early on in the match, seemed to be caring less and less as it went on. Shawn hit the spots that he had to, but it was clear that there was no real desire there. The end came when Batista and Michaels ultimately were ganged up on by the lumberjacks, right until the point that they somehow managed to turn it around and start to fight back. A "superhuman" effort that really just made everyone else look far too weak. A thankfully short affair, what could have been a much better match just ended up being a dud.
