WWE Smackdown Review 29/11/11 - Mark Henry vs Daniel Bryan Steel Cage Match

Mick Foley hosts the special live SmackDown supershow which is a gimmick filled night of matches including; Mistletoe on a Pole Match, Miracle on 34th Street Fight and a All I Want For Christmas Battle Royal.

Tonight's WWE Super SmackDown live show came from Charlotte, North Carolina with snow falling from the rafters. Mick Foley is on the stage dressed as Santa Claus and reveals that he is a huge fan of Christmas, even if we are still in November and four weeks away from the jolly event. Foley hypes up the World Heavyweight Title Steel Cage match tonight and announces a 'Miracle on 34th Street Fight' and a "All You Want For Christmas Battle Royal'. The winner of the Battle Royal will get their special wish granted by Santa. Foley said that on RAW he promised us no Michael Cole but Cole's legal team and iron clad contract got him on but it didn't stop Foley being able to dress him like a goof. Cole comes out dressed as Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and isn't happy. Cole takes his seat at the announces table and is joined by Josh Matthews dressed as an elf and Booker T comes down also dressed as Santa Claus. Foley talks Booker into performing the Spin-a-rooni which brings IC Champion Cody Rhodes to the stage and he trash talks Booker T and says he will never be a champion again. Booker says he has no beef with Rhodes and doesn't want to right him but he can still handle himself in the ring. Foley then sets up a Booker T vs. Cody Rhodes match tonight and says Cody is stepping into the ring with a five time WCW Champion and legend. Booker doesn't look all that pleased to be competing again but goes along with it. 1) Mistletoe on a Pole Match The Bella Twins, Natalya, Kelly Kelly, Rosa Mendes, Alicia Fox, Kaitlyn, Aksana, Tamina and some other unnamed Divas (excluding Divas Champion Beth Phoenix who wasn't there) competed in the match where the winner gets something a reward. The commentators figured it would be a Divas Championship shot as Phoenix wasn't there. In a short and hideous batch Brie Belle hits her sister Nikki and climbs on her back to grab the mistletoe. Winner: Brie Bella Foley then comes on the mic and says he never promised a title shot for the winner. Instead Brie gets to kiss any superstar she wants between now and Christmas. Brie seemed happy with this. 2) Justin Gabriel vs. Jinder Mahal Jinder Mahal's entrance finds him trash talking our love for Christmas. After a few minutes where Gabriel got no offence, Ted DiBiase's music hits and he comes out to the ring in a Santa hat and with a bag giving out presents to fans. This distracts Mahal who receives a kick from Gabriel who slams Mahal to the ground and gives him the 450 for the win. Winner: Justin Gabriel Backstage Mick Foley is playing host to a Christmas party. Roddy Piper is there. Dusty Rhodes too who is fascinated by Hornswoggle and says there's some weird people around here. He then turns round and sees his son Goldust and freaks out a little. Piper advices Johnny Curtis to spike someone's drink with eye drops if he doesn't like them. David Otunga in his lawyer outfit advises not and says he has spoke with John Laurinaitis and the party should be shut down because the Christmas music hasn't been cleared for copyright to use. Foley decides to book Otunga in the Miracle on 34th Street Fight with Randy Orton. Matt Striker is talking to Booker T about his upcoming match with Cody when the IC attacks him from behind with the title. Booker acts hurt and referees come out to check on him. Looks like tonight's match is off. 3) Kofi Kingston vs. Tyson Kidd Very little offense from Tyson as Kofi puts him away with ease. Winner: Kofi Kingston We return to the Christmas party. Sheamus wants to know what the winner of the All I Want For Christmas Battle Royal will receive but Teddy Long doesn't know and says it's all Foley's idea. Aksana and Teddy have their usual porn star music moment. 4) Miracle on 34th Street Fight: Randy Orton vs. David Otguna Miracle on 34th Street Fight: Randy Orton vs. David Otunga Yet another one-sided match where I don't think Otunga got another offense until an interference. Orton just takes him to town, not only throwing him into the Christmas tree staging but also giving him a draping DDT from the apron down to the mats outside the ring. Wade Barrett interferes, shoving Orton into the ring post and giving him a big boot. He throws Orton into the ring and Otunga grabs the opportunity to perhaps win a match without having any offense but Orton kicks out at 2. Orton eventually gets back into the match and wins with the RKO. Winner: Randy Orton Teddy Long asks Mark Henry backstage if he is in the Christmas spirit. He isn't but says he will take care of Big Show at TLC but will destroy Daniel Bryan tonight. We see a hype video for the main event tonight. 5) All I Want For Christmas Battle Royal Sheamus, Hunico, Darren Young, The Usos, JTG, Ezekiel Jackson, Ted DiBiase, Yoshi Tatsu, Kofi Kingston, Tyson Kidd, Jindar Mahal, Justin Gabriel, Heath Slater, Tyler Reks, Hornswoggle and more. Finish comes when Sheamus and Honswoggle are left in the ring (Hornswoggle had been hiding under the ring). Sheamus tries to eliminate Hornswoggle gently but he keeps holding on to the apron. Sheamus tells him he should eliminate himself. They discuss it on the apron and Hornswoggle finally agrees he will do it and wants a hug. When he gets one, he manages to push Sheamus off the apron to pick up the win. Winner: Hornswoggle Sheamus gets back into the ring a looks like he will confront Hornswoggle but instead he raises his arm to victory and puts him on his shoulders and congratulates with him to the back. Right back to the Christmas party. Mick Foley asks Hornswoggle what he wants for winning the Battle Royal. Sheamus tells Foley Hornswoggle wants the ability to talk. Foley gives Hornswoggle a hug and suddenly Hornswoggle can talk again. It's a Christmas miracle! Foley then appears wearing a Cactus Jack t-shirt. Was that the real Santa Claus then that granted Hornswoggle his wish? Daniel Bryan is getting ready for his World Title opportunity. AJ Lee wishes him luck with a kiss. Matt Striker asks Bryan for pre-match comments. Bryan says sooner or later, everyone taps and his dream will come true tonight. 6) Steel Cage Match for World Heavyweight Title - Daniel Bryan vs. Mark Henry Good match. Finish comes when Henry gives the World's Strongest Slam from the top rope for the win. Bryan climbs the cage but Henry pulls him down onto the top rope. Henry with another big clothesline. The cage door is shut again as Henry continues to control Bryan but favor his injured ankle. Henry goes for a slam but Bryan slides out and takes the leg out again. Bryan locks in the LaBell Lock but Henry fights out. Henry goes for a powerbomb but his ankle goes out. Bryan applies the ankle lock on Henry. Henry rolls through and kicks Bryan across the ring. Bryan climbs the cage again but Henry pulls him down. Henry climbs the cage now but Bryan stops him in the corner. Bryan climbs up over Henry's back and makes it to the top of the cage. Henry pulls Bryan back down by his arm and they go at it on the top rope. Bryan tries to hurricanrana Henry but Henry goes for a powerbomb. Bryan uses that to make it back to the top of the cage. Henry pulls him back to the top rope and hits some headbutts. Henry hits a World's Strongest Slam from the top rope for the win. Winner: Mark Henry
