WWE Starrcade Returning In 2018?
Saturday's show drew big numbers.
Starrcade could become a permanent part of the WWE calendar after the success of this weekend, according to a report in PWInsider.
It is thought that Saturday's show - which took place at the Greensboro Coliseum - recorded attendance numbers considered unusually high for an untelevised wrestling event.
With a host of cameos from some of the industry's best-loved stars, including a returning Ric Flair, Starrcade also generated some significant buzz on social media.
And Mike Johnson says there is already backstage "talk" of returning to the same venue next year to help maximise their house show takings.
Long-time WWE producer Michael Hayes has been identified as the brains behind the decision to revive the former WCW showpiece.
The Hall of Famer reportedly pitched the idea to Vince McMahon after learning that the company would be in Greensboro, the event's birthplace, over Thanksgiving weekend.
Johnson also notes that, despite not being broadcast live, Starrcade was recorded and could conceivably be added to the Network library at a later date.
This, however, is said to be typical at all of WWE's live events, so there's no guarantee that will ever see the light of day.
Apart from appearances from Flair, Arn Anderson and Ricky Steamboat, Saturday's show was also notable for two headline cage matches, in which AJ Styles and Charlotte retained their respective titles against Jinder Mahal and Natalya.
