WWE Sting Into The Light Review: 10 Insights You Need To Know
3. The Hogan Controversy
At Starrcade 1997, Sting wrestled Hulk Hogan following a year long build up. It was a huge match, WCW versus NWO, and the babyface Sting was meant to go over. However, in a shocking controversy, Hogan appeared to score a clean pin over Sting. The newly signed Bret Hart then acted as if the pin was dodgy (when it was clearly fine) so he restarted the match, and then called for the bell when Hogan quit in Sting's Scoprion DeathLock - even though he didn't appear to tap. It looked very much like Hogan had messed with Sting's big moment. But looking back, Sting sticks up for Hogan. "He was a Sting booster. He was an advocate." "I don't know what happened that day. There was a lot of politics going on that day." Eric Bischoff offers a more damning verdict on Hogan's role, saying "Hulk really didn't want to commit."
