WWE Summerslam: 10 Things We Want to See

06. No Squash Matches

Much like #10 on this list, having no squash matches at the second largest Pay-Per-View of the year should be a given. WWE€™s recent history would suggest otherwise. For months, live audiences and fans watching at home have been €œtreated€ (and I use that word extremely lightly) to bonus, unannounced matches to kill (and fill) time in between the card€™s paramount bouts. There shouldn€™t be room for that at Summerslam. WWE€™s talent pool is deep, and with the impressive amount of ongoing and quickly developing rivalries that could benefit from a pre-announced spot on the card, there€™s no need to see Brodus Clay, Ryback, or Damien Sandow compete in their traditional one-two-you€™re done type of match-up. Let the scheduled matches breathe, and more importantly, give them ample time to tell a memorable story (more on that later.)

5. The WWE Tag Team Championships on the Line

While all of WWE€™s mid-card titles have suffered in recent years, there is perhaps none more void of hope or starving for attention than the once revered WWE Tag Team Championships. These once highly sought after titles used to be celebrated, defended in co-main events on Pay-Per-Views and used as a stepping stone into superstardom. In recent months, WWE has made strides to develop and at least devote some time and attention to a wealth of talented and up-and-coming tag teams. One such team is The Primetime Players - Darren Young, and Titus O€™Neil. Led by the charismatic showman A.W., Young and O€™Neil feel like a real tag team. They€™ve got the look, they€™ve got the manager, and they€™ve got some pretty solid in-ring work to back it up. The groundwork for a feud with the reigning champions (Kofi Kingston & R-Truth) has already been put into place, and it€™s getting stronger by the week - now it€™s time to pull the trigger. In recent years, each time WWE starts to devote some time to a promising Tag Team Championship rivalry, they quickly cut the legs out from under by throwing the match onto a pre-show, or canceling it altogether. Summerslam is a perfect opportunity for WWE to show that they€™re serious about Young and O€™Neil, and about reshaping the tag team division.
