8. R.I.P Cody's Moustache
After Damien Sandow spouted his usual intellectual concoction of abuse towards both the audience and his upcoming opponent, Cody Rhodes' music in and one of the biggest shocks in the evening was written all over his face. Well, actually, his face was completely smooth, and that's the point. The Moustache that had captivated and amused fans all across the WWE universe was no more, and I certainly was not the only one who was upset. I almost skipped the match out of protest, but instead I soldiered on, hoping the two would put on a great performance and dedicate it to the fallen moustache. The match itself was not spectacular but certainly solid. Rhodes is an excellent performer that many believe has been heavily under-utilised, and Sandow was perfectly sound in the ring also, which bodes well for the future World Heavyweight Champion. The intellectual saviour of the masses controlled the majority of proceedings, as you would expect any experienced heel to do, whilst Rhodes had some effective and quick offence, bouncing off the ropes and flying through the air. Although the match was slightly tarnished by the confusion of the feud, with Rhodes acting as much like a heel as Sandow was in his actions. The creative team should have made him seem like a person who would have battled Sandow if that would have won him the briefcase, but he would have done it to his face because he respected his friends. However, they made Rhodes seem like nothing more than a petulant child that was sore about losing a match. Nevertheless, the action in the ring told a more focused and compelling story, with Rhodes getting the victory after connecting with the Cross Rhodes and pinning his former best friend. Expect this feud to continue at least until the next PPV and possibly beyond, as the two will likely battle over the briefcase as the culmination of this. If the company give this time, it could be an excellent mid-card feud which simultaneously pushes Rhodes into a championship hunt and gives Sandow more credibility against top competition before he is to assume the mantle of being a world champion. He might not be there yet, but building this feud to its fullest potential will likely put them both near the top.
