This match is saddled with a tired and poor gimmick. Worst still, WWE have done little to clarify what the actual flag match stipulations will be. There's different variations of the flag match and we're still in the dark as to what format WWE are actually going to use. Even the Raw commentary team seemed confused about it this past Monday. That tells us this match is just an afterthought for WWE. If they have so much disregard for promoting it, chances are it isn't going to be very good on the night. WWE.com say the following, "Will the Stars and Stripes soar at SummerSlam, or will it be the red, white and blue of the Russian flag that's waved in victory?" On this basis, it sound like the winner will be the first man to capture their flag from a pole and give it a wave. There's reason to believe that man will be Jack Swagger. Yes, Rusev is the man getting a career push, but it isn't like this would be a conventional loss. There'd be no pin or submission. Swagger perhaps wraps Rusev up in the ring ropes, allowing the capture of the American flag. That'd give the crowd a pop moment and further grease Swagger's growing patriot profile.
