There were some chuckles when Mick Foley announced on Monday Night Raw that the red brand's answer to the WWE World Heavyweight Title would be called the WWE Universal Title. Decked out in a crimson aesthetic, the Raw belt is now around the waist of one Finn Balor. The Irishman's journey from NXT to the main roster is now complete.

At SummerSlam, Balor faced Seth Rollins for the right to be called the first champ in the history of the title. The match was complete with a no disqualification clause, a stipulation that wasn't entirely necessary but did add to the feeling that anything could happen. In keeping with that theme, it was Finn who emerged as the Universal Champion.

For those who have tracked Balor's journey from Japan (as Fergal Devitt) and across the globe, through to his time in NXT, it's awesome to see how far the Irish star has come. Now, he has made history on the main roster in WWE, and beaten one of the top stars in the industry in order to do so.
