When Randy Orton vs. Brock Lesnar was announced many moons ago for SummerSlam 2016, there was some head scratching, some mild excitement and a whole load of apathy. Then, when both men were drafted to different brands during the split, everyone wondered what was going on. How could WWE adequately build to such a match when Brock Lesnar was on Raw and Randy Orton on SmackDown?

Everybody got the answers they were looking for when both invaded their opposing shows, attacking the other man in the process. Come the pay-per-view itself, Lesnar vs. Orton was picked to headline, and it ended in stoppage when Orton began bleeding heavily.

This was much better than a straight pinfall or submission loss for Randy, he technically didn't give up. It was the referee's decision to end the match, meaning Orton was protected. Whether this will lead to a rematch is unclear, but now Orton has a tough vibe to him that only enhances his veteran character.

It was smart to end the show this way, rather than having Orton be beaten by an F-5.
