WWE SummerSlam 2017: Best Booking Scenarios For Each Match
6. Rusev Crushes The Viper
It feels a little weird to say it, but Randy Orton hasn't won a PPV match since WrestleMania. First was the House of Horrors match against Bray Wyatt that we have all attempted to scrub from our respective memories. Then there was three straight jobs to Jinder Mahal.
Meanwhile, Rusev hasn't won a PPV match by pinfall or submission since 24 July 2016. It's been a while, managing only a count-out victory over Big Cass at Roadblock: End of the Line.
This feud doesn't make much sense, and seems more like an excuse to get both men on the card. For all of Orton's detractors, he's pretty much Teflon at this point when it comes to wins and losses. There's very little Randy could do to change his perception as a genuine star of the company. Gaining a submission victory over him would still be a pretty major accomplishment.
As of right now, Rusev is definitely not legitimate enough to be a qualified contender for the WWE Championship. A win over a 13 time world champion would, at the very least, slot him in for contention for the United States Championship. A feud between a self-proclaimed redneck in AJ Styles and someone that hates America could make for superbly entertaining television.
