Fans have been scratching their heads wondering just why WWE are hosting Payback only a week on from SummerSlam, besides the company's desire to ruin yet another long bank holiday weekend. Spite, it transpires, isn't the only motivating factor: according to Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer, the promotion are running an experiment which could involve a huge SummerSlam angle leading into the show.
That means we're likely to see something transpire in one of the night's major matches which necessitates an immediate rematch - as per the name, 'Payback'. Given Bayley and Sasha Banks have already been advertised to defend their Women's Tag Team Titles at the show, it's unlikely to revolve around either of their singles defences opposite Asuka on Sunday. That leaves the two major championships, but more likely, it has something to do with a brewing family feud...
