WWE SummerSlam Main Event Still Daniel Bryan vs Brock Lesnar?

Huge question mark still hangs over Daniel Bryan's physical recovery.

The WWE SummerSlam card is finalised, with Brock Lesnar expected to main event for the WWE Title, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. The original plan had been Lesnar facing Daniel Bryan for the title, but Bryan may not be back until September's Night Of Champions. The likely scenario is that whoever wins the WWE title at the Money In The Bank pay per view will end up defending against Lesnar this August. This means a babyface is probably going to win the ladder match, which would realistically mean John Cena or Roman Reigns. There's Cesaro too, but the Observer believes he will be staying alongside Paul Heyman for a while. Cena vs Lesnar was previously done in 2012, an exciting match which John shockingly won. There's no doubt it would work again, Cena vs Lesnar is a huge headline, it would work well with the casual / lapsed fans who recognise both names. Reigns vs Lesnar is less of a draw, the Shield star is still emerging, but there'd definitely be interest amongst WWE fans for the match. You just wonder if it would maybe be too much too soon for the 29 year old. Original plans for him to face Triple H sound a better option. If he did get the sudden push to gold it would be a disaster for Daniel Bryan, a signal that WWE have bypassed the 'Bryan era' in favour of pushing a new babyface franchise in Reigns. Speaking of Bryan, he is advertised to return in mid-August, but internally WWE aren't expecting anything. He could be gone all the way up until later September, by which point the company might have moved on from him. As Dolph Ziggler has proved, WWE really don't want to invest in injury prone headliners. What could be the plan is that he'd come back to feud with Kane, the man who injured him, possibly fulfilling the original plans for a stipulation match.
