WWE Survivor Series 2002: 5 Awesome Things And 5 That Sucked
1. Shawn Michaels Winning The World Title In The First Elimination Chamber Match
It's one of the most famous matches in the career of the great Shawn Michaels because of where it took place, what was on the line and the new gimmick match that was first used at this show. At the time, this was only Shawn's second match since coming back. The first one was at SummerSlam 2002 three months earlier, so it was another situation where we didn't know how often Shawn would be wrestling. The other five men in the match with Michaels were the World Champion Triple H, Chris Jericho, Booker T, Kane and Rob Van Dam. It was a good mix of talent because everybody knew that the main story was between Shawn and Hunter, but the other four guys belonged in there. RVD was the high flyer (that's a pot joke, by the way), Jericho was a great all around talent while guys like Booker and Kane were bigger guys that definetly belonged too. There was a lot of blood in the match because they really wanted to get over the idea that this was WWE's version of Wargames and it was going to be a bloody match. Before the company went PG in 2008 that's what it was. When the bloody Michaels was left alone with a bloody Triple H, the crowd got even more fired up. It was the perfect match built up on a personal rivalry as well as the comeback story by Michaels. The SummerSlam match ended without a finishing move. In this case, Hunter hit a Pedigree and then Michaels kicked out of the pinfall. That was because he took too long to cover Shawn. Michaels was able to avoid another Pedigree, then he hit a Superkick and the crowd in MSG exploded as Michaels won the World Heavyweight Title. It was the last World Title that Michaels would win even though he wrestled another eight years. it was a special moment in the career of one of the best wrestlers ever. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xqhhwt_elimination-chamber-1er-match-survivor-series-2002_sport It might not have been the best match of the year or in the career of Shawn or Hunter, but they really did an amazing job of telling a story and making the Elimination Chamber matter by delivering a classic that we'll never forget.
