5. The Miz Vs. Baron Corbin

Weird, is the word.

Baron Corbin began the match by getting right in Maryse's face. The Miz, as was logical, made a beeline for him. The battle lines were drawn, character alignments aligned. We were then reconditioned throughout, as the Miztourage constantly interfered on behalf of their leading man. It was unclear where our sympathy was to be directed. It was also unclear what the dramatic crux of it all was; framed as something deeply personal - but not performed with that lofty aspiration - the sight of Miz and Corbin donning respective brand t-shirts was as pointless as it was, in the end, contrived.

Despite all that, Baron Corbin, who comes in for some criticism on this author page, emerged from the match with a degree of credit. In the closing two minutes at least, he looked like a genuine threat you could believe in, as opposed to an over-pushed bore. Nobody expected much from this pairing - and yet, they slightly over-delivered. Slightly.

One day, in WWE, the line between heels and babyfaces may become irrevocably blurred. The Miz and Baron Corbin, however, are not the men to blur it.

Star Rating: **1/4
