2. Layla
Being billed from Miami, many don't realise that Layla was born in London. Since debuting in 2006 via the Diva Search competition (being the winner of that contest), she has risen through the ranks of the WWE much like Sheamus. She got her initial push on the ECW brand in 2007 as part of the Extreme Exposé group with Kelly Kelly, before moving to Raw to manage fellow Brit William Regal in 2008. Following this, she moved to Smackdown where she formed a tag team with Michelle McCool. It was here she was given a chance as a featured character on WWE TV, and the team went on to have some memorable feuds under the name of Lay-Cool. With McCool's retirement from Wrestling, Layla would undertake singles competition, winning the Women's Championship and in the process becoming the first British woman to do this. She was also in fact the final holder of the title when this Championship was retired in 2010. After a lengthy absence due to injury, she would return in 2012 and win the Divas Championship. Winning the title from the extremely popular Beth Phoenix perhaps shows just how much potential WWE see in Layla, and a lengthy Championship reign looks like it may be on the cards. With Raw extending to 3 hour programming each week, Layla has the chance of leading a Divas division that may have more focus and TV time than previous years. With the WWE recently signing more Independent Female Wrestlers, it will be interesting to see how well Layla fares if WWE give an invigorated push to their Female Superstars.
