Now, Vince Russo isnt exactly the most loved figure in wrestling history, but every now and then he has a good point. In a recent blog entry on his site, he relayed a story about Vince McMahon telling him to not write half-pregnant angles. He told him to either go all in on his stories, or just dont do them. Dont be half-pregnant dammit! If only McMahon would take his own advice. For NXT Takeover, Bret Hart and Ric Flair both showed up to support their family members in battle. While the match ended up being one of the best WWE womens matches in years, the hype behind it was almost non-existent. On Raw, Flair and Hart were shown with a graphic on the screen for a few seconds, and that was pretty much it. This is Ric Flair and Bret Hart, two of the biggest stars in the companys history! Was there really no time for them to have an in-ring segment or to show a pre-taped promo where theyd put over Natalya and Charlotte? Couldnt just two minutes of Stephanie McMahons TV time have been cut to make time? How about El Torito vs. Jinder Mahal? Well, since everything else was too important that it absolutely had to air on Raw, it just hurt the star power of Hart and Flair a little bit more. When big names aren't promoted as a big deal they don't feel that special. It was almost as bad as Hogan showing up on SmackDown to promote the WWE Network in a country that doesnt have access to it yet. Someone needs to take better care of the legends, and not outright ignore them stick them in a televised retirement house to be laughed at.
As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at."
Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week.
