WWE Top 10 Royal Rumble Fails

8. It Takes A King To Know A King (Royal Rumble 1997)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gANvweIUy4 Jerry "The King" Lawler is known to WWE fans as the main color commentator on WWE programming that has been in that position since he started with WWE in 1993. He's been in that spot for the better part of 20 years and has earned a lot of respect for it. In 1997, he entered the Rumble match while also doing commentary on the match. That's what we call multi-tasking in today's world. Unfortunately for Jerry, it was a bad idea. Lawler was sitting at the commentary table with Jim Ross & Vince McMahon while the clock counted down. In the ring were Steve Austin and Bret Hart, who were embroiled in WWE's greatest rivalry at the time. Hart put Austin in the Sharpshooter just as the buzzer sounded. Lawler's music hit and he entered the match after taking off his headset at the announce table. He went into the ring with enthusiasm only to be met with a right hand by Hart. That wasn't enough to send Lawler out of the ring, so Hart him with another punch and Lawler went flying over the top rope. He was eliminated in 4 seconds. "It takes a king to know a king." It sure does, Jerry.
