6. Edge Defeats Test To Unify The US & Intercontinental titles (Survivor Series, November 2001)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYCk1FffOkE This one has a surprisingly robust history behind it, thanks to the backstory on the WCW US title. The US title had previously been unified with the National title in 1986 by Nikita Koloff, giving the title some pretty serious credibility. Edge was the US champion at the time of this match and chose to keep the IC title, thus dissolving the US title. Later on, of course, the IC title would be merged with the European and Hardcore titles, thus giving us an Intercontinental title that could trace the lineages of all four of those other titles in addition to its own. Still not important enough for HHH to actually want to hold it, of course, but I think that's pretty cool. Match Quality: Surprisingly great. I wasn't a huge fan of the match at the time, but it holds up really well on re-watch, with Test trying harder than usual at this point. Long-term Significance: The abandoned US title would be un-abandoned in 2003 and remains a fixture of the lower card to this day. But that's wrestling for you.
