WWE UK Championship: 10 Things We Want To See
7. Keep It British
Initially, it seems that the United Kingdom Championship will be used to introduce British and Irish wrestlers to wider world audiences and to groom the UK talent for a transition to the main WWE roster, but this doesn't mean that the belt should only be open to UK nationals. Far from it.
WWE's United States Championship is open to all nationalities, as was the European Championship. So the UK Championship should, eventually, follow the same path. If a wrestler is working within an affiliated British or Irish promotion, they should be eligible to compete for the title.
This could actually work to the belt's advantage if the Championship is to appear on WWE's regular programming. If wrestlers such as Russev or Cesaro wanted to challenge for the title, it could help to make it seem more prestigious and potentially create more interest in it among viewers who might not have otherwise cared.
However, this needs to be done sparingly. The UK Title shouldn't end up like the European Championship before it and become a plaything for North American wrestlers with nothing else to do. Providing a spotlight for UK talent should be the belt's primary purpose, and this would suggest that its primary home should be in the UK wrestling scene, being held by UK wrestlers.
