5. Public Statements On Homosexuality
Warrior officially retired as an active competitor in 1999 after a less than stellar run in World Championship Wrestling. After quitting the business he decided to try his hand at being a motivational speaker with public speeches more akin to a wrestling promo than a political talk. Warrior's views were extremely conservative and critical of the left wing, including one occasion where he made some controversial comments based around homosexuality. In April 2005, Warrior spoke in front of the Young Republicans of the University of Connecticut after being invited to do so. During his speech he broached the subject of homosexuality and said he needed to, "come down off his politically correct horse," and insinuated that "queers" as he called them were not as legitimate as heterosexuals. When someone from the audience raised the question, "How are they not?" Warrior elaborated by stating that, "queering doesn't make the world work." This statement obviously offended many and the College Republicans apologised for bringing the former Dingo Warrior to the University in the first place. Warrior later took to his website to defend his comments, saying that what he meant was that the human race would die out if everyone were homosexual. It's possible that he became flustered at being interrupted but you'd think that a man with so much live TV experience would have been able to deal with a heckle and still be able to convey his point. That being said, Warrior was never known for having the most coherent promos. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-WlNb3j1llc
