WWE: The Ultimate Warrior's 6 Biggest Controversies
4. WWE Departure In 1996
Despite the way he left the company in the first place, Warrior was welcomed back to the WWE in 1996 and made his return at WrestleMania 12. Famously, Warrior squashed future superstar Triple H in under two minutes, no-selling the Pedigree along the way. After powering through Helmsley, Warrior was interrupted by Goldust on Raw leading to an Intercontinental Title feud between the two in which Warrior won the battle by count out but not the title. Warrior had some mini feuds during this return but his contract was terminated just before he was scheduled to appear at In Your House 9. As you might have guessed by now, both sides of the story are very different. On the one hand, Vince McMahon claims that the release stemmed from Warrior taking time off to deal with the death of his father. McMahon claimed that Warrior was estranged from his father and hadn't spoke to him in ten years, thus not believing Warrior's reason for taking time off. Warrior's argument is that his reason for taking time off was due to a breach of contract on McMahon's part where he did not receive residuals from his merchandise sales that he was entitled to. Either way, Warrior was replaced by Sid at the event and never again appeared in a WWE ring.
