WWE: US Championship – A Legacy of Greatness DVD Review: 14 Interesting Observations
7. EVERY Title Match Was A Gimmick Match
I can only assume this is the case because I wasn't around to live through the biggest rivalries that contested for the old United States Heavyweight Championship...
Almost every single old school match on the DVD was contested inside a steel cage or under no disqualifications.
We're treated to Lex Luger vs. Dusty Rhodes at Starrcade 87 inside a steel cage; Magnum T.A. vs. Tully Blanchard in a steel cage; Luger vs. Beautiful Bobby Eaton in a No DQ match; and Nikita Koloff vs. T.A. in a match that is far more brutal than any normal singles match I've ever seen before.
I'm right in assuming this was commonplace, right?
I realise that WWE have a hard sell on their hands in terms of putting together a DVD brimmed with old school matches that will appeal to the younger generation. Their hand was forced somewhat to include the more outlandish matches from a bygone era.
Still, this makes for a far more entertaining DVD...
