WWE Vs. AEW: Which Promotion Does It Better?
3. Storyline Logic
As good as recent angles involving Randy Orton, Edge and Beth Phoenix were, they lacked some simple psychology. Here's a quick example. If Orton really wanted to save Edge from himself the night after Royal Rumble like he told Beth, why didn't he go after another body part? WWE expected fans to temporarily buy in to the idea that Randy had tried to stop Edge from breaking his neck by...almost breaking his neck?
Little touches like that one don't seem to count for much under Vince McMahon's watch.
Over in AEW, those flourishes are everything. The logic Tony Khan's company has shown in feuds like Cody vs. MJF or the infighting amongst 'The Elite' is more grounded. Seeing Nick Jackson re-focus his brother Matt at Revolution and remind him that he shouldn't injure a friend before trying to win the Tag-Team Titles was stellar work.
Everything carries more weight in AEW's world. Storylines, with few exceptions (not every single one is going to be a winner), are easier to follow, and they're easier to invest in because the workers playing each role react like real human beings during promos.
Winner: AEW
