WWE WrestleMania 31: 10 Things That Need To Happen
7. A Bloody Rhodes Brawl
It should have been a big deal when Stardust finally turned on his big brother and broke up the Rhodes tag team. It should have been, but it wasn't. Instead, the Fastlane match between the two brothers was completely boring and ended with Goldust beating his younger sibling with a roll-up in front of a bored and unresponsive live crowd. To make matters worse, the announcers were trying to sell the fact that Cody had taken to wearing his face paint at home, meaning he was getting "too far into his character". Look, we are all aware that wrestling is not a legitimate athletic contest. However, do we really need to remind everyone that they are watching a show at all times? Can you imagine if Robert Downey Jr. stopped in the middle of the latest Avengers movie and said "you know, we're really not all superheroes, we're just actors playing a role here and this is all fake."? It would ruin the entire experience and yet WWE makes it a point to remind their audience that what they are watching is fake. So how do we solve this? With a simple, old-fashioned blood feud. Make Dusty Rhodes the special guest referee and let his sons absolutely tear each other apart to put over the fact that they hate each other. Dusty's specialty was the Bunkhouse Brawl, so gives the Rhodes family that kind of match and let them have an old-school wrestling brawl. It would stand out from the rest of the watered down, clean cut stuff on the show and might just propel the feud to the next level. Dusty would also give the match added intrigue not just for his promo ability but the obvious storyline question of "which son is he going to choose?"
