WWE WrestleMania 33: 10 Potential Main Events
1. Conor McGregor Vs. John Cena
Conor McGregor is a loose cannon. He’s still under the mercy of Dana White, but he also has a ton of leverage since he holds multiple UFC titles at the moment. He wants a piece of the company, but maybe he’d settle for being able to take on more outside opportunities that would pay him handsomely.
McGregor’s manager has said that his client would “entertain” an offer from WWE. It would be absolutely fascinating to see it happen, and wouldn’t actually be that big of a stretch. For starters, McGregor is a fan of wrestling, and seems to model his style of trash talk after some of WWE’s greatest. This is also the time of the year when Vince will shell out big money on celebrities, and Conor could potentially make more from a Mania match than a UFC bout. It wouldn’t even be an unprecedented move to have a major fighter in his prime come in either, as we saw boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather battle The Big Show at WrestleMania 24.
There are a lot of compelling opponents for McGregor. You can only imagine that if he agrees to fight, that Hunter himself is going to lobby to land the bout. But the best choice would be John Cena. Cena has been the face of the company for years, just as McGregor is for UFC, and he has the most mainstream appeal by far.
Besides that, there’s already been some smack talk laid out by the UFC star:
"What's the main guy? John Cena? He's 40 years of age walking around in a luminous orange t-shirt and headband talking about no one can see him. You can see him right there -- he's a big fat 40-year-old failed Mr. Olympian motherf****r."
Now THAT is a promo. Of course, there’s no good ending for this match. Either a UFC wrestler goes over WWE’s best, or a UFC guy has to lose a fake fight, which would likely piss off Dana White. Still, this may be the absolute best bout we could possibly see at WrestleMania.
