WWE WrestleMania 34: 10 Most Insane Things That Happened!

9. The Streak...Is Over (Again)

Jesus Christ.

In a shocking development lost to an institution of insanity later in the night, Asuka's undefeated streak came to an end. Asuka's undefeated streak came to an end. It really does bear repeating.

It's a shame in itself, and in the depressing, almost absurd execution of it. After a very good and very promising 13 minutes, Charlotte, having barely targeted Asuka's knee throughout, made the Empress tap having suffered a focused onslaught to her own appendage. The mentality behind the decision was baffling, and each divergent take is each rooted in cynicism. Did WWE remember that the Undertaker's Streak ended in New Orleans, and opt for an easy, hollow shock pop informed by unrelated history - or were WWE looking ahead to Charlotte Vs. Ronda Rousey at the Metlife Stadium in 2019?

"I ended Asuka's undefeated streak with one bad shoulder!" is something you can all too readily imagine Charlotte bragging about to level up to the former MMA megastar. The result drew broad parallels with the No Mercy '17 headliner, in that a great act was neutered, comprehensively, as a sacrificial lamb.

Will Asuka recover? We are meant to be in awe of her uncanny, ineffable physical charisma. She is an underrated all-rounder, but we hardly need another sympathetic babyface who fights from underneath. To join this club, she'll probably cut a Z-list sitcom zinger on Monday, shrugging her shoulders and saying "That's life!"

She essentially already did on Sunday.
