...at the expense of Rusev, who is over and interesting. The same Rusev, dismayed at his lot in WWE, who allegedly threatened to leave the company. He was added to the match as a measure of consolation. This was his consolation prize: he was the designated jobber who lay on his back to put over a calculable failure of an investment. It's almost funny at this point.

This was a peak WWE result: Jinder Mahal, who objectively confirmed last year that holding a championship makes him somehow less interesting, won another one mere months after the company gave up on him. Meanwhile, trumpeted company legend Randy Orton, who couldn't even bother himself to order new gear for WrestleMania, phoned in a match he barely factored into. Bobby Roode could not have appeared more like a passenger if he was guest starring on Ride Along. The Rusev Day chants mean nothing, ultimately. Vince McMahon refuses to put even his own pet project over in 2018, much less acts who get over on their own.

A passable match with an utter failure of a result, Vince is trying to make Jinder A Thing for the second successive year.

That virtually defines insanity.
