It was a night of feel-good moments in New Jersey.

Well, they did it. WWE presented a mammoth show which ran just shy of eight hours, which although paced much better than previous WrestleManias, was simply too long to ensure the crowd weren't completely knackered for its historic main event.

Kicking off the show sometime in the distant annals of time, Tony Nese unexpectedly ended long-term Cruiserweight Champion Buddy Murphy's reign in a neat and tidy encounter. Early comers to the MetLife Stadium were then treated to the Women's Battle Royal, which was eventually won by Carmella, who last eliminated Sarah Logan.

The Raw Tag Team Championship contest, hastily added to the card at the last minute, was obviously booted to the pre-show. Curt Hawkins finally ended his ludicrous losing streak when he and Zack Ryder overcome The Revival - even after Dash Wilder had made a star of himself battering a chap last night.

The Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal concluded the kick-off presentation. The trophy tediously went to Braun Strowman, after some fannying about with the Saturday Night Live pair.

WrestleMania proper began with an absolute bang, as Brock Lesnar, unwilling to stick around if not in the main event, faced Seth Rollins in the opener. The Architect, after surviving an early beatdown, caught The Beast with a low-blow before securing the title thanks to three curb stomps.

The pace slowed a little as AJ Styles struck Randy Orton with a Phenomenal Forearm to earn victory in the night's second match.

The Usos surprisingly retained their SmackDown Women's Tag Team Titles in a fantastic fatal four way, which saw Cesaro swing Ricochet for upwards of a minute as tag team partner Sheamus delivered the Ten Beats of the Bodhran to each of his opponents.

In a surprisingly hard-hitting street fight, Shane McMahon lucked his way to victory over The Miz, following a sick suplex from a gantry onto a gimmicked box. Miz showed aggression and risk-taking far beyond his usual fare, which bodes well for his babyface run.

In perhaps the only truly naff match of the main show, The IIconics stripped Bayley & Sasha Banks of their Women's Tag Team championships. It's fair to say it wasn't the best.

The night's second major feelgood moment came as Kofi Kingston overcame Daniel Bryan to claim his first WWE Championship. The crowd were absolutely electric throughout this contest, with the post-match celebrations a true WrestleMania moment.

The show was in need of a breather after that, and Rey Mysterio's mid-week injury serendipitously provided that. Samoa Joe squashed him in short order.

Roman Reigns dispatched Drew McIntyre in a very underwhelming bout, before Triple H and Batista shared a brutal brawl. Things didn't look promising when the latter tripped just climbing in the ring, but it developed into a violent albeit slow-paced sports entertainment battle with ended with Hunter smashing his former Evolution stablemate with a sledgehammer.

The curtain came down on Kurt Angle's career as Baron Corbin took advantage of a failed moonsault to pin him with End of Days. Though the fans were shocked at the outcome, it is the traditional way to go out. But... to Baron Corbin?

Finn Bálor's demonic transformation ensured a quick and easy victory over the hapless Bobby Lashley, allowing him to regain the Intercontinental Championship he lost last month.

Finally, we got to the show's historic all-women main event. Becky Lynch reversed Ronda Rousey's Piper Pit into a roll-up - mostly - to capture both the Raw and SmackDown Women's Championships. The show ended with Daniel Bryan-esque images as the new double champ raised both belts as fireworks fired off around the stadium.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
