For well over an hour last night, WrestleMania belonged to these three men. Arguably the most bizarre match on an evening of bizarre matches that made up a weekend-long bizarre card, a triple-threat singles match to determine the tag-team championships will have been a new on to virtually every single fan watching.

But good god, did it deliver.

All three men, to their absolute credit, went into this match with the intention of treating it like a proper WrestleMania ladder match. Given the circumstances and capacity for creative editing you'd have forgiven them for trying to protect their bodies rather than delivering high-risk spots, but this contest will rightly rank up there with the best in this PPV's storied history.

The initial exchanges were blink-and-you'll-miss-it in-ring work, before the trio gradually introduced the unforgiving apparatus into the equation. After a slightly ropey segment where the silence in the arena really did the wrestling trope of slowly climbing the things zero favours, the three managed to recover it with a few enormous spots. Jimmy taking a ladder flush in the face while walking a barricade, and Kofi managing to catch Morrison in a hurrincanrana from halfway one.

The ending was slightly convoluted, with all three men getting their hands on the prize before a falling Morrison managed to (somehow) take both belts with him. However, that doesn't detract from the overall quality of the contest.

Result: John Morrison defeated Jimmy Uso and Kofi Kingston by climbing the ladder... sort of (18:30)

Star Rating: ⭐⭐⭐3/4
