It's actually pretty incredible to think that Miz was WWE Champion earlier this year. He couldn't be further from that spot right now, but his title history is something the commentators should lean on during his match with Damian Priest. This is all about putting Priest over, after all.

He's the rising star, not 'MC M.I.Z'.

Vince McMahon clearly feels that giving Priest a big win over Miz in a pay-per-view gimmick match will elevate him, and he's right. People can say what they like about the heel, but Miz is part of WWE's furniture these days. That comes with some hidden benefits. Namely, he can lose without shedding any stock with the audience.

Priest can exploit that and go up a rung by doing so. He's the kind of worker who'll eventually dethrone Sheamus to become United States Champ, or even become a focal point in the main event scene by the end of the year. WWE aren't going cold on this guy.
