The match that started it all.
On 31 March 1985, when Wendi Richter - accompanied, of course, by Cyndi Lauper - challenged for Leilani Kai's Women's Championship, who knew that this would eventually lead to women main eventing WrestleMania? It seemed impossible at this stage.
As for this match, it was as dire as dire gets. Women's wrestling at this time was an afterthought for WWE. It was a fairly sloppy affair that lasted a mere six minutes, culminating in a reversed crossbody rollup to crown Richter the new champion. If you're going to relive this match on Peacock, you're not in for a treat.
The sole reason this match ranks so highly is because of its importance. Cyndi Lauper is undoubtedly one of, if not, the biggest celebrities to ever be involved with WWE in some capacity. While she's more known for her appearances alongside Roddy Piper, this was equally as important in a much different way.
Richter, meanwhile, deserved to have been at the forefront of the Rock N Wrestling movement of the 1980s. If WWE cared more about their women at this stage in their history, then Richter vs. Kai would have been far better in terms of an in-ring story.
For now, though, this is worth a revisit for Lauper alone.
