WWE's Biggest Booking DISASTER Every Year (1986-2026)

3. Cody Rhodes Willingly Steps Aside (2024)

This just in: The Rock vs. Roman Reigns may never happen. WWE has thought about booking it for years, but they've yet to find the right spot. Lord only knows if Dwayne Johnson will ever step into the ring for another whirl - that's up to him more than anyone else.

Rocky's last few significant beats in WWE have sucked anyway. There's more to come on his puzzling John Cena involvement, but 2024 saw the 'Final Boss' bizarrely hug Cody Rhodes on the 2 February SmackDown and seemingly replace him in the main event of WrestleMania 40.

Why Cody willingly stepped aside despite winning the Royal Rumble had people tearing their hair out. It was illogical, awkward and appeared to be a proper dick move from Rock. It wasn't long before social media blew up about things.

"#WeWantCody" began trending on X, which forced WWE to reconsider as Triple H slyly pretended that they'd been working everyone all along. This was quasi-similar to the Daniel Bryan situation from 2013-2014. 'Oh, we were always going to do it your way...honest! Enjoy the ride and don't get so heated about things!'.

A wave of backlash slapped the promotion down, and that led to Cody's historic "finish the story" win over Roman Reigns at 'Mania. Who knows what Rhodes would've done at 'Mania had he handed The Rock his title shot?

One of WWE's finest stories would've been squashed just like that. It might turn out to be one of the last chances to pen 'Final Boss' vs. 'OTC' though.
