In an interesting move, as first reported by HeelByWrestling, WWE star Keith Lee filed a trademark for his wrestling name on December 18.

What makes this particularly noteworthy is that WWE put in for this same trademark as far back as August 2019, but the United States Patent and Trademark Office have been unable to grant WWE this trademark due to not having received a signed consent form from Lee.

Several letters have been sent WWE’s way to chase up this matter, with the Trademark Office believed to have sent notice on June 30, 2020 that if they did not receive said form by December 30, 2020 then the trademark would be abandoned.

Now putting in his own personal request to trademark the Keith Lee name – which is his real name – Limitless has cited evidence of him using this ring name as far back as November 1, 2008.

This follows on from Lee’s real-life partner Mia Yim putting in a similar trademark request for her ring name back in October of this year, with Yim – real name Stephanie Bell – having used that moniker since 2009.

Earlier this month, it was revealed that WWE is still likewise waiting for trademark consent forms to be signed by Raquel Gonzalez, Mercedes Martinez and Malcolm Bivens.

Of course, given how there’s now another major player on the wrestling scene in the shape of AEW, many talents who have long established their ring name before landing in WWE will be keen to hold onto that name should their WWE tenure come to an end.

For example, if WWE owns the trademark to the Keith Lee name, that means any future move to somewhere like AEW would see Lee have to perform under an entirely new ring name.
