Contrasting with Ryder, Finn Bálor's Universal Championship win at SummerSlam came as a result of one of the most meteoric pushes to the top we have seen in years. Bálor had the complete faith of the company to be one of the leading faces in the second brand split era.

We all know what happened next. The Irishman took a nasty bump on the barricade and tore up his shoulder, meaning he had to immediately relinquish the brand new title. Showing that he was willing to sacrifice his body to win the big red belt gave it a certain boost of credibility which it was in dire need of after being booed incessantly during their match. Either way, this was not in the script when WWE were deciding how best to debut the Universal Championship.
