With Johnny Gargano this week referencing on Raw how Tommaso Ciampa's ongoing absence from WWE TV was due to an injury, Ciampa himself has today taken to social media to confirm that he has this week undergone surgery to repair his hip labrum.

The two-time NXT Champion posted on Instagram to explain how he'd been dealing with back pain due to a hip labrum tear. As a result, surgery was carried out this week by Dr. Emblom of the famed Andrews Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center out of Birmingham, Alabama.

Ciampa last wrestled on a 17 September live event from Bakersfield, California, where he lost to Bobby Lashley in a bout for the United States Title then held by the All Mighty. In terms of TV, the Psycho Killer's most recent in-ring outing came on the 22 August episode of Raw, where he and the Miz picked up a DQ win over Lashley and AJ Styles.

As alluded to, Tommaso's long-time BFF-turned-rival Johnny Gargano this week claimed that his former DIY partner was dealing with an injury, which in itself was a counter to Miz's kayfabe concerns that the A-Lister hadn't been able to reach Ciampa since the Boston native's most recent run-in with Dexter Lumis.

At this stage, there's no word on how long Tommaso Ciampa will be on the sidelines for, but here's hoping for a full and swift recovery for the hugely talented star.
