8 New Directions For WWE Champion Triple H

6. Sports Entertainment Vs. Indie Wrestling

They had nothing to do with one another during the Rumble itself, but a Fastlane match between AJ Styles and Triple H would make absolutely perfect sense. One is a king of backstage politics, and probably the man in charge of the future of sports entertainment, the other is an undisputed indie legend, having slowly carved out a reputation for himself over the course of a decade. The fact that AJ has made his debut on the main roster speaks volumes about WWE's intentions for him. Unlike other stars of the independent scene - such as Samoa Joe or Hideo Itami - Styles is clearly regarded as a marketable enough star without first going through NXT. The monstrous pop he received during his Rumble entrance only reinforces that point of view. The key issue here, however, is the fact that a feud between Triple H and Styles would probably result in a victory for the former - a result which could prove incredibly damaging for a star as eagerly anticipated as AJ. This is perhaps a feud better saved for after WrestleMania, once The Game has lost the title.
