Typically for an aging pro wrestler, Ric Flair was full of it when he told anyone who'd listen that he didn't plan to wrestle upon rejoining the WWF in 2001. In fairness, the 'Nature Boy' hadn't exactly been full of confidence during the last stretch of his WCW stint, but nobody actually believed that he'd be a non-wrestling authority figure for good.

Mere months later, Flair was brawling with Vince McMahon at the 2002 Royal Rumble pay-per-view, and he'd go on to work hundreds more matches for the rebranded WWE until 2008. In early-2006, Ric was keen to show that he still had it to match even the best workers in the biz. So, he signed on for an unlikely TLC bout vs. new WWE Champ and ultra heel Edge on the 16 January Raw.

Yes, Ric Flair was in a 'Tables, Ladders and Chairs' match. In 2006.

WWE's announcers acknowledged that Flair was up against it and a fish out of water going in, but it’s still so strange to see him in that kind of setting. There were no Jeff Hardy dives off the top of ladders for Ric, but he did take some daring bumps throughout the match, and it was obvious that Edge was loving every single second of the thing.

Also, Charlotte Flair was ringside for this one too. A decade and change later, she'd be working in big gimmick matches herself on top WWE shows. Lord only knows what she was thinking when watching her then-56 year old father putting his body through hell to prove a point.
