6 Ups & 5 Downs From WWE Saturday Night's Main Event (13 December - Results & Review)
DOWNS…
5. Paying Off A Bad Tournament Gag
During the Last Time Is Now tournament, Sheamus was unable to compete and needed to be replaced. This opened the door to the possibility of a fun substitution. Instead, WWE foisted the Miz on everyone again after Miz had lost in the first round. He would go on to immediately lose again. The end.
Or so we thought.
Saturday, Miz came out to complain about not getting any spotlight time despite being a big part of Cena’s career. This brought out R-Truth (groan), who said he found out the truth about Miz switching tumbler balls to sneak back into the tournament. He had the tumbler ball that was meant to be picked.
And wouldn’t you know it, the name in the ball read: “Joe Hendry.”
You know how the rest goes.
Hendry popped up on the apron for the sight gag, a fight ensued, and Miz got hit with a Standing Ovation and “pinned” for his moment.
This wasn’t a bad moment, but if this was the plan all along, they deliberately mucked up a tournament for an elaborate setup so Miz could say Hendry’s name. Call it harmless dreck. If you love Hendry’s shtick and haven’t tired of Miz and Truth, you were thoroughly entertained.
But if you’re ambivalent toward Hendry and think Miz and Truth’s routines are played out, you probably wish you had fast-forwarded.
