11 Ways Battleground 2015 Changed WWE's Future

Battleground changed the course for SummerSlam.

WWE Battleground was an average special show. It was all built around one major angle with The Undertaker, which had largely leaked out in the week beforehand. In terms of in-ring action, John Cena and Kevin Owens had the best match of the evening. But even that wasn't to the same standard as their last two classics. The result however, like a few things on this card, was a notable signal of WWE moving on to new things. Battleground changed WWE's future in several ways, as the company starts looking toward a mega-show with August's SummerSlam.

11. Randy Orton On The Rise

A key future change was the investment in Randy Orton. He's been gone for a few weeks recently, with his absence barely even noticed by fans. It has been a severe come down from the babyface heights he was hitting around March and April, when he was massively over in matches against Seth Rollins. Battleground was WWE's attempt to put Orton back on track. They gave him a win over a notable name in Sheamus. It was a good solid match, with Orton winning clean from an RKO. It puts some momentum back behind him, starting him back out on the path of being the main babyface alongside John Cena and Roman Reigns. Raw ratings have been bad recently, and a strong Orton character is viewed as one of the remedies.
