XFL Viewership Down 36% For Week Two
Last week's Saturday game experienced a big decline.
The XFL experienced a considerable decline in viewership for last week's Saturday game between the New York Guardians and DC Defenders.
Per the data, the match drew an average audience of 2.127 million viewers on ABC. That's a decline of 36% from the previous week's 3.3 million.
ESPN's Sunday game between the LA Wildcats and Dallas Renegades experienced a less drastic fall, going from 2.495 million in the XFL's debut week to 2.397 million for week two. Ratings for the games broadcast on FOX are yet to be disclosed.
Despite these numbers, live attendances were actually up on average. A total of 76,285 fans attended the XFL's week two games (according to data from 247 Sports) with the Seattle Dragons vs. Tampa Bay Vipers game attracting an impressive 29,172 fans. This was comfortably the weekend's best-attended fixture, followed by the St. Louis Battlehawks vs. Houston Roughnecks at 17,103.
The XFL's original run saw viewership plummet 84% between weeks one and eight. A fall from the first to the second week was always on the cards this time around, though it'll be interesting to see how the trends progress going forward.
