10 Wonder Woman Graphic Novels You Must Read Before You Die

7. The True Amazon

Wonder Woman Year One Rebirth
DC Comics

In this retelling of Princess Diana's origin story, writer and artist Jill Thompson analyzes the superhero's early, formative years. The book is beautifully painted in full color by Thompson, whose take on a younger, less sure Diana plays out in a way that becomes inviting to readers of any age.

As it should, Wonder Woman: The True Amazon is steeped in Greek mythology with characters who love the new Princess of Themyscira, but see her develop into a spoiled young girl. As tragedy unfolds around her, it falls on Diana to save her people and fulfil her destiny to become Wonder Woman.

Unlike many of the books found here, The True Amazon is a graphic novel, which tells a story in and of itself. This can be read at any point to help bring new readers into the character or even offer fans who always loved her a new take on one of their favorites.
