Newcastle United gave a much better account of themselves than their last meeting with Manchester City, but still lost in extra time to Manuel Pellegrini's team in round four of the Capital One Cup. Alvaro Negredo came off the bench to score the first of two goals for the visitors after a rather lacklustre regulation 90 minutes. Strike partner Edin Dzeko was also on target. The likes of Yohan Cabaye and Hatem Ben Arfa were rested by Alan Pardew, but were in reserve among the subs. Manuel Pellegrini meanwhile gave Sergio Aguero and Yaya Toure the night off after a packed programme of Premier League and European fixtures. What did we learn from this League Cup tie? Here's five things we thought were important.
