8 Doctor Who Fan Theories That Are Better Than Reality

6. Series 7: Part 1 In Reverse

This theory has already been vigorously explored in a previous WhatCulture article but it's certainly an interesting one to mull over. What if the events of Series 7: Part 1 were happening in reverse order for the Eleventh Doctor, meaning that he lost the Ponds in Manhattan and then, refusing to accept that he'd never be able to see them again, proceeded to travel back through their timeline to salvage their last moments together? It makes sense - relativity speaking - if you think about it. Why else would he have been so sad at the end of The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe? For him, it was the last time he'd ever see them (since Amy referenced the Seres 6 finale, meaning that time had caught up with him and their fate had been sealed). Hence the tear as he closed the, appropriately TARDIS-esque, front door, see? Furthermore, in The Angels Take Manhattan it was established that as soon as the Doctor knows he's done something, he can't do anything to change it (or something like that, anyway). It's like your destiny being written in the stars but in this case it was written in a book. Therefore, as soon as Amy told the Doctor that she hadn't seen him since The Wedding of River Song, he knew he couldn't travel back any further. The rest of the clues, as well as the inevitable loopholes, are discussed in-depth throughout the aforementioned article but it's definitely something to think about it. If anything, it adds more depth to what was a generally rather mediocre series. Or half of a series, as it were.
