8 Doctor Who Fan Theories That Are Better Than Reality

7. The Human Tenth Doctor And Rose

The BBC's announcement that David Tennant and Billie Piper would be returning for Doctor Who's 50th anniversary special was met with the inevitable outpouring of fevered anticipation (and only about 34.5% of it was negative, too - certainly a step in the right direction!). But just what would their highly anticipated comeback entail? There was, of course, a multitude of possibilities, which is partially why the speculation was both immensely fun and frustrating in equal measure. The most obvious theory was that it would take the form of an "untelevised" Tenth Doctor and Rose escapade, an adventure running concurrently with the Eleventh Doctor and Clara in the present in which they're helping each other from the past, or something to that timey-wimey effect. Sounds plausible enough, right? But then there was the slightly unavoidable issue of the human metacrisis Doctor and Rose who have been off living their happily ever after in a whole new world since the end of Series 4. Surely they weren't about to find another way of crossing back into our realm? After all, how many times can a show bring a character back from a supposedly inviolable parallel universe before they end up jumping the shark (if, that is, they haven't done so already)? As it turns out, though, it was none of the above. While the Tenth Doctor was the Tenth Doctor in all his glory, Rose was merely a personification of the most powerful and dangerous weapon in the universe. So there you go. What's more, and much to the dismay of their legion of devotees, the beloved duo never even saw each other on screen, although there was a fleeting moment - above - which made it look like they were about to. Damn you, Steven Moffat. It was probably for the best, though and at least it kept us guessing right until the very end.
