10 Fascinating WWE King Of The Ring 2000 Facts

2. It Marked The First Time The WWE Championship Changed Hands In Some Kind Of Tag Team Match

It's ideal to have your biggest championship be contested in a high-profile singles match. Triple threats and fatal four ways, especially without elimination rules, can be rather cliche, and they dilute the gold when the champion himself loses the belt without being pinned.

At the 2000 King of the Ring, Triple H defended his WWE Championship in a six-man tag, teaming with future in-laws Vince and Shane McMahon to face The Rock, Kane, and The Undertaker, where any of the latter three could win the belt if they pinned any of their opponents. The Rock pinned Vince, thus "The Game" parted with his belt without taking the fall. Shocker, I know.

Only one other time has that belt changed hands in a tag team bout, and whaddya know: Triple H was champion there, too. He, Shane McMahon, and Batista lost to Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Ted Dibiase at Backlash 2009, though Helmsley did take the fall to Orton there.
