There were a glut of awesome TV matches in the summer of '09, but this one is seemingly forgotten about. Jeff Hardy and John Morrison, two incredibly athletic and progressive performers, clashed in the main event of the July 31st episode of Smackdown and had something of a fast-paced barnburner with the World Heavyweight Title on the line.

Morrison rarely got the chance to challenge for either of the two major WWE Titles, but he made the most of it when he did (see his excellent Falls Count Anywhere Match versus The Miz in 2011, his last in a WWE ring). Both men were babyfaces and both brought everything they had in a bid to entertain the fans.

The Shaman of Sexy was hitting flips and kicks left, right and centre, including a picture-perfect Asai moonsault and a springboard Chuck Kick. The Charismatic Enigma was his usual reckless self, flying through the air with reckless abandon, at one point hitting a steel stair-assisted Poetry in Motion on the outside of the ring.

Morrison was turned heel by default here, but never gave in to fans demands that he turn bad and instead continued to focus on the task at hand. It looked like he might have it won, too, but the rainbow-haired warrior countered a Starship Pain and landed his trusty Twist of Fate/Swanton Bomb combo to retain his title.

JoMo was made to look really, really good here and more than keep up with his more experienced opponent.
