2. Molecule Man
Once a lowly scientist living in Brooklyn and working at an experimental nuclear facility, Owen Reece's life was forever changed when an 'accident' that led to an atomic device activating and bombarding his body with radiation while simultaneously opening up a wormhole. Where to? The Beyond Realm, of course.
After this orchestrated incident, Reece was imbued with the innate ability to control matter down to the molecular level and even further beyond, now able to go so far subatomic that it is believed he can re-write the code of reality itself.
Immediately fired from his job by his boss who hadn't even bothered to learn his name, Reece felt so dejected by society that he decided to use his new found powers to live a life of crime, taking on a new name - Molecule Man.
Being granted this level of practical omnipotence by The Beyond Realm did come at a cost; the sentient reality effectively chose Reece and his multiverse counterparts as living bombs, each connected to their universe by their lives.
If one were to die, their universe would be totally obliterated by the ensuing blast of proto-cosmic energy. A bit of a dodgy experiment, if you ask me.
